I am 24 and have been dealing with this pain for 9 years.. finally had an MRI and saw the results… 2 herniated discs EXTREMELY protruding into my spinal fluid. (L4 & L5 area) The surgeon said for someone my age he would never do surgery but its my only option at this time…its 45 minutes, small incision, and he said im up and walking and home that night.
-is recovery really this quick?
-did you really not feel pain after? if so long long did it last?
-did you need a catheder for surgery? (im a chicken)

I have recently had lower back pain and pain down my right leg. I went to my family doctor and she had me get an x ray and an MRI and found I had a herniated disc and gave me the number of a orthopedist to see about it. i made an appointment with the orthopedist but the earliest appointment isn’t until August 11th! I’m really worried about not getting better before school starts again, is there anything I can do in the mean time to help myself get better? Or am I stuck waiting til the 11th?

Can an avid weight lifter resume a life of squating or lifting weights after having a herniated disc- even if time goes by and healing is evident? The obvoius answer is NO WAY but is there anyone who was able to still pursue his/her passion for the sport after that type of injury (any examples of famous athletes who continued in their demanding careers? e.g. Football players, etc.) OR is that considered a career ending injury for a young (30) person in otherwise phenominal shape?

I herniated a disc in my lower spine, and I’ve been treating it with physical therapy, pain meds, chiropractic adjustments. It’s improving, but cortisone shots are my next option. If you’ve had the same problem, I’d like to know if they worked for you and for how long? I’ve heard they can help with pain for up to three months if they work, which should be enough time for my back to heal properly. Did they work for you?
