My husband had a sudden pain in his lower back. After a few minutes of activity he could not move because the pain was so bad. He is now laying in bed and can barely move due to the pain. Due to insurance he cannot get to a doctor until morning. Does any one know what the cause of this could be and anything to alleviate his pain til he gets to the doctor?

You know.. this happens to me all the time, it happened today at school, but it wasn’t too serious, I was frozen for a few seconds, but then I was okay, I’m not healthy at all, so it happens alot for me, is your husband unhealthy?

He may have a pulled muscle or a vertebrae pressing on the sciatic nerve. Try moist, extremely warm compresses to the area first. You can get a hand towel, wet it and put in the microwave for 30-40 sec. and lay it over the area. Make sure it is not hot enough to burn his skin. Also if he is able to take Aleve or Ibuprofen he could take that with food til he sees the MD. This should help til he gets tests done to find out the prob.

this happens to me every so often, i actually found your question looking for how to get rid of it as well, since i obviously don’t know i’ll at least try and help you…
the only thing i’ve ever found that even kind of works is lying flat on my back, on the floor, on a heating pad, while propping my knees to keep my back from arching. i’ve found painkillers provide little to no relief, the only thing you can do is wait it out. fortunately, for me at least, it typically doesn’t last for more than a few hours – days at a time, and i’ll typically only have it happen a few times a year if that often
